On September 1, 2017 I launched my first soy candle collection. I didn’t even know it was a collection, I just knew I liked making diy decor, and what goes better with home decor than candles?
I started with a double boiler on our kitchen stove. I read articles and watched tutorials and studied melting points of different waxes, and I just TRIED stuff. I melted one pound of wax and made two candles out of the batch. I was so excited. I purchased several 1oz bottles of fragrance oil, and I had something like 2 dozen candles to sell at that market and I was SO THRILLED when they sold out.
I never want to forget those days. Like so many start up entrepreneurs, I taught myself how to do everything from the ground up. I never want to erase those first product photos or hand cut labels (which is why you can scroll and see my Instagram from day 1!) because they have made Illuminate Space become everything she is today.
Always learning, always growing, always trying something new and pivoting when needed. But never giving up. That’s how I always want to be.
