Our whole moving process this summer started because I was using our Dining Room as my Illuminate Space shop/workshop. It worked, it really did! And my family was always so gracious about it. Only one time did one of my boys say while we were eating at the table in the living room turned combo dining room: “Remember when we used to eat dinner in the dining room like regular people?” 🙂
So, this past May, Michael and I decided to sell our house and look for a new house with two requirements: a main floor office space…and a 4th bedroom while we were at it because our oldest son was currently living in the basement, lol.
I remember the first time I looked at the listing of our future home (Martinson) and thought, “Oh my gosh, that’s it!” when I saw the two story entryway sitting room. I thought immediately that it would be the perfect shop space for me. But when we came to see it in person, it was a rainy and dreary day, and we definitely didn’t fall in love like I thought we would. So I tucked my original thought away, and didn’t even share it with Michael or our realtor, Diana, because I thought I just got it wrong.
Long story short, after our first choice house fell through, we ended up coming back to Martinson a few weeks later and seeing it in a whole new light. We saw the potential and saw how we could bring our magic to it and throw some light on it- the heart of Illuminate Space. It felt right to take another house and make it our own again! Now that I’m a couple months away from that chaos of writing offers and negotiating, I can see how it all worked out truly magical. (YESSSSS.) My heart knew from the first time it crossed my path that this house was the one, but it took a while for reality to catch up. I’m so glad it did.
Every day I say, “I’m just so grateful.” I’m just so, so grateful. I love our house, and I love that this is the perfect space for Illuminate Space right in the front.
My husband Michael really is my hero with all this home improvement stuff. I’m great at creating with my feelings and as inspiration strikes, but that doesn’t work well with precise trim painting and light fixture installation. ☺️ He’s done so much work and executed (and added to) my vision in awesome ways. Again, I’m so grateful.
Here’s the space before:

And here’s after we illuminated it. 🙂

The wall sconces, white rolling cart, and blanket are from DecorSteals.com (one of my favorite daily deals sites!)
The curtains are from my $5 curtain post (they’re flat sheets!)
The pottery urn is from my Grandma Collette, so that makes it extra special.
The rug is from Amazon.

Audrey Ficus tree is from Branch Gardens.
Calendar, rolling cart, and tiered planters from DecorSteals.com.

Oh, and I forgot one of my favorite parts, the Sputnik light fixtures from Joss + Main! Three cheers to Michael for arranging for the multiple ladders to get those up. 🙂 It’s in different lighting because I just ran over to take a picture now. 🤷🏼♀️
Yay, for my new Illuminate Space Shop that is not my Dining Room!! 👏🏼👏🏼
