When I was officially diagnosed with anxiety, they said it was in the same spectrum of OCD. When I get trapped in my fear, I can’t get out. I just spiral and spiral until someone or something helps me find a way out. I have a lot of tools in place to help me with this for which I am grateful.
I spiraled recently and it felt really crippling. It felt dark and cold and hopeless and I couldn’t get out. I think that’s why I’m so attracted to candle flames. Even in the dark, there’s still light. Even a flicker of a small flame illuminates the darkness around it.
I’ve come out of my spiral, and I’m able to look at it rationally now, but it didn’t make the fear any less real. This quote has always given me lots of hope, but especially now when my fear is so fresh. I am strong. I am strong enough to meet whatever comes. I am surrounded by so many people that love me and help me. You know that final battle scene in Avengers: Endgame where Captain America is all alone facing Thanos’ army, but then one by one all the Marvel team appears and stands alongside him, so he’s not alone? Yeah. That. That’s what I imagine every time I feel afraid. It’s me and all my Avengers. I’m not alone. And neither are you. 💓
Here’s to 2020. We’ve totally got this. 👊🏻
