“If Plan A doesn’t work, there are 25 other letters in the alphabet.”
I saw that recently and LOVED it. I think because that is how I’ve lived most of my life. I always did things a little backward I guess. No not backward, just different. I never followed how you’re “supposed” to do life. Whatever that is!
We got married in college AND had a baby. I was 20. I had no idea what I was doing, and I often had to leave the lecture hall to go puke in the bathroom. This time though not from a wild night of drinking, but from my first trimester. I didn’t quit college though, I kept going, and I walked the stage to get my diploma with my 18 month old watching.
We didn’t have a lot in those early days, but I remember working really hard to create a life we loved. We found odd jobs here and there, and Michael took his turn to finish school. We toted our toddler around with us, and he really was the best baby to have when you have no idea what you’re doing. (I mean, who does?!) In a lot of ways, the three of us really grew up alongside each other, just experimenting and doing life together.
Life happens all around us, and I don’t want to miss it. So I make new plans all the time. How does this best fit our family today? Okay, let’s do that. We try things one way, sometimes they fail and we try new things. But honestly? I think I’ve grown the most through all the those failures and re-tries.
I don’t think there’s one right way to do anything. No one size fits all mold for a vibrant, successful life. You do you, and do it proud! I know it’s hard not to compare yourself to others, but every single journey and path to get there is worth celebrating.
So, I have a shop set up in the front room of my house. I pour candles at night while my family watches a show in the room next to me. Today this works for me. Tomorrow who knows? I’m only on Plan X, and the alphabet can be cycled through as many times as needed.
