Someone said to me today, “oh you’re a tattooed woman, I love it.” Yeah, I’m a tattooed woman and yeah I love it! I have four tattoos and they all make my heart burst. Each one tells a story. A story of something that left an imprint on my heart, soul, mind, and therefore it seemed fitting- on my body. Each ones tells of how I have experienced God, how I’ve grown, transformed, and embraced all life has handed me. Here’s the story of my arrow tattoo.
My arrow is my most recent. I got it in 2013 when I was first diagnosed with anxiety and depression. For so long I lived with this thorn that I didn’t know what to name, but tried to push it away with all my might.
After I was diagnosed, I knew how to seek treatment. I knew what to call it. I learned how to hold it and make room for it, and not shame it. With the right people to walk alongside me, I’ve been able to put it in the passenger seat while I stay in the driver’s seat.
Just like an arrow on a bow, I sometimes have to be pulled back a bit (which doesn’t always feel great). But then I can launch forward and soar.
