I love sayings. All the sayings! It can be inspirational, funny, wise, silly– all of the above, I just love it all. Whenever I come across a saying that makes me pause, I write it down. A lot of time I’ll use these words in my creations, like lettering it on doors or windows or planters. I also will just keep it tucked away in my journal to look back on and remember that it had an effect on me at one point in my journey.
I saw recently, “Mountains don’t rise without earthquakes.“- Katherine MacKenett. What in the world, I love this so much. I decided to google it to get some science up in here.
Earthquakes occur when rocks beneath the ground abruptly move positions. This sudden motion makes the ground shake, sometimes with great violence. Although harboring destructive potential, earthquakes are one of the essential geological processes contributing to the formation of mountains.

STOP. This is magical AND legit. Legit magical amazingness.
How often life can feel like a bunch of earthquakes. I’ll be in a groove, things are good, I’m feeling good, like I can conquer anything. Then, the once steady rock beneath me abruptly moves positions, and I’m not good. And I feel like I can’t do it, and I’m not strong enough, and I don’t want to keep going.
But there’s this important moment or energy right there when that happens. It’s a choice that I hold all the power to: do I give up? Or do I keep going? Sometimes to keep going looks different, maybe it’s just a re-direction, or a small change. Sometimes it’s a really big one that is going to take a lot of work. But either way, it’s that key moment that changes everything. Will my mountain be formed here?
I like this thought of mountains forming all around me and under me. Like a trail of my mountains. 😌 Sometimes I can resist the “bad”, hard stuff. But if I’m being totally honest, it’s all that stuff that has shaped me and made me stronger. Anyone can do the easy stuff. It’s the earthquakes that make me a strong mountain range.
The earthquake/mountain parallel between physical creation and our spiritual being? I just can’t get enough. How magical. So maybe we can do this together this week; anytime our earthquakes start popping up, let’s take a breath and collectively choose to stay in the arena. WE can do it. We can do hard things, and we can keep going. Let’s have neighboring big beautiful mountain ranges together. 💞
